April Rabkin is a contributing writer to Fast Company Magazine, focusing on business, technology, and civil society in Asia. She has also reported for New York Magazine, Slate, Foreign Policy, the New York Times and Mother Jones. She grew up in California and majored in East Asian Studies at Yale University. She got her start at the Ventura edition of Our Times, Los Angeles Times, and spent more than two years covering town politics for daily newspapers. She was awarded the Asia Society's Osborn Elliott Prize in 2012 and, before that, selected as a Middlebury Environmental Journalism Fellow and a Blakemore Freeman Fellow. She has reported from Afghanistan, India, Burma, and China. After six years based in Beijing, she now lives in Brooklyn.
